Amanda Kim Soo arrived from Seoul, Korea on February 16, 1987. She was three years old, a bundle of energy and determination. She was going to deal with life on her terms. Not speaking a word of English, she quickly found her position in the family...the cherished youngest child of Carol and William Pasternak.
Waiting for her to arrive at Kennedy International Airport were two new older brothers, Marc and Jeffrey, a new older sister, Jennifer, and her new parents, Carol and William. In a matter of minutes, our family of five became a loving family of six. Our family's strength has always come from the fact that we are very close. Every child had both a brother and a sister. The children ran to their Dad as often as they ran to me, their Mom. They all had their ups and downs but they could always count on us for love and support.
As a senior at Freehold Township High School in Freehold, New Jersey, her death affected many. Her funeral was attended by hundreds of people. She was involved in the drama club and the yearbook staff. She loved working at Against All Odds, a store in Freehold Raceway Mall. She was becoming a young adult and it was both difficult and beautiful watching her grow up.
Losing our daughter has been the hardest thing her Dad and I have had to face. We are grateful to everyone who has helped us cope with her death.
...Amanda, we love you and will hold you close to our hearts forever
